The Konmari Method™

The KonMari Method™ is not just any organizing system.

People are drawn to this method for its proven effectiveness, but also by the importance it places on mindfulness, self-awareness, and optimism. In her many years of tidying consulting, Marie Kondo has never once had a client rebound back an untidy home.

How is this possible? Through teaching clients to cultivate a sense of what sparks joy and to express gratitude for those items which no longer do. By acknowledging our belongings for the service they have done us, we are better able to notice and express gratitude for all that we experience. When we have honed our sense of joy, we draw more of it toward us. This is how we never go back. This is how we find the space to utterly transform our lives.

Traditional organization methods typically work through a home one area or room at a time, dealing with all of the items in that current space. With KonMari, we organize by category instead of by location. This is done by gathering all items within a category, then examining them one by one to make decisions based on all of your possessions in that category, versus simply what’s located in one part of your house. Following the KonMari order of categories allows clients to tidy up their entire house once and for all.

PRAISe for the Konmari method™

“[It is] enough to salute Kondo for her recognition of something quietly profound: that mess is often about unhappiness, and that the right kind of tidying can be a kind of psychotherapy for the home as well as for the people in it . . . Its strength is its simplicity.”

“Reading it, you glimpse a glittering mental freedom from the unread/uncrafted/unworn, buyer’s remorse, the nervous eyeing of real estate listings. Life’s overwhelm, conquered.”

“. . . a literal how-to-heave-ho, and I recommend it for anyone who struggles with the material excess of living in a privileged society. (Thanks to Ms. Kondo, I kiss my old socks goodbye.) ... To show you how serious my respect for Ms. Kondo is: if I ever get a tattoo, it will say, Spark Joy!”

“[…] the Japanese expert’s ode to decluttering is simple and easy to follow.”

“This book lives up to its title: it will change your life.”
